Speaker Nolan Burmaster was elected on April 8, 2025 to serve as the 34th Speaker Of The House. He won the Speakership in a vote of 450 - 61. Speaker Burmaster started off his political career serving on the Franklin County Council, a role he held from May 10, 2012 until May 10, 2016. During his time on the County Council, he pushed for safer streets, especially in early 2013, when Franklin County crime rates skyrocketed to an average of 2,500 crimes being committed monthly. He helped reform the County's jails. He played a crucial role in the implementation of traffic cameras after the 2015 death of 12 year Marty Livingston and 5 year Macey Livingston, who were struck and killed by a hit and run driver. The driver was never found, and the bill to implement traffic cameras on all county traffic lights under the title of the Marty-Macey Livingston Bill.
He then served on the Rufus County Board Of Directors where he played an instrumental role in spending more on county schools, including providing grants for the Roberto Central School District, and Rufus County Public Schools. He served on the Board Of Directors from April 2, 2017 until February 18, 2018.
On February 19, 2022, following the resignation of former Representative Brian Whittier, Burmaster was selected to serve as the Representative for New Shire's 19th District by then- New Shire Governor Thomas Cooke. He served as a Junior Representative for the 19th District before he was reelected for a full term on September 7, 2022. He was sworn in for his first full term on November 10, 2022.
On January 18, 2025, then-Speaker Matthew Carrington appointed him to be his Deputy Speaker Of The House, a role he would only hold for a little more than two months. During that time, he served as the right hand man of Speaker Carrington. Carrington said he was a "trusted friend and partner." Carrington said "there was no better choice to be his Deputy Speaker."
On March 31, 2025, Speaker Carrington passed away unexpectedly, shooting now Speaker Burmaster to the spotlight. Early following Carrington's death he was named the likely successor to Carrington. On April 5, 2025, he was nominated to serve as the next Speaker of the House. He received a majority of the House's support, and on April 8, 2025, faced a special House Speaker Election. He was elected the 34th Speaker Of The House in a vote of 250 - 61, with 4 Republicans voting in opposition to his speakership and 57 Nationalists also voting against his speakership. He was sworn in at noon on April 8, 2025. Since taking office he has focused on carrying on the leadership legacy of the late Speaker Matthew Carrington and vowed to work hard for the Jesstopian people.

The Speaker's role in the House, is to ensure debate and votes take place in a reasonable manner and a consistent time frame. They are also responsible for ensuring legislation and work is getting done within the chamber. The Speaker's role is also to ensure qorum during proceedings including during Presidential Statements, State Of The Unions as well as other visitors to the House Chamber.
